THERE'S A NEW BATTLEFIELD... on the homefront after Iraq or Afghanistan. Through adaptive winter and summer sports-based activities, adventure-based education, hunting & fishing opportunities, comradeship & mentorship, caregiver recovery education, PTSD education, entertainment, and serenity through wilderness... Veterans and their caregivers gain more trust, self sufficiency and better mental/physical/emotional health.
THE 2011 WINTER AND 2012 SUMMER SAS EVENTS... by Operation Never Forgotten (ONF) brought OEF/OIF injured Veterans and their caretakers from around the country to Montana for healing. Through SAS workshops they will gain the knowledge and tools in order to reach out to other injured warriors and caretakers.
WHAT "SAS" STANDS FOR: Outdoor Sports, hunting Afield and fishing by Stream. Warriors and their caregivers take to exciting and meaningful times together to help heal and overcome obstacles. Warriors also win more chances to fly fish, time in the backcountry, big game hunting and even a cattle ranch vacation. See the trips warriors win!
WHY MONTANA... ONF's SAS events are held in Bozeman, Big Sky and Yellowstone because this area is one of the nation’s most desirable destinations for its serenity, wilderness resources, vast outdoor recreational opportunities, big game trophy hunting and blue-ribbon trout rivers for fishing.
THE FIRST SAS EVENT... kicked-off with ONF's Spokesman, Lee Greenwood at Big Sky Resort January 7th, 2011. The week-long WINTER SAS event brought snow/ice sports and adventures, along with hunting and fishing clinics and trips to win. ONF hosted the second SAS event again at Big Sky Resort, July 17th, 2012. The public was invited to support warriors, their friends, families and participating outfitters/guides for great music entertainment, comedy, speakers, special auctions and food! There were also several well known celebrities sending their thanks and words of encouragement by video at each SAS event.
THE NEXT SAS EVENT... will provide more educational workshops to break through the stigma problem with invisible wounds, secondary PTSD that families struggle with and how to warriors and caregivers can help other warriros and caregivers in their home communities.
HEALING COMES FROM... support through comradship, mentorship, community and education. Healing comes from adapting to and learning challenging physical potentials. Healing comes from discovering new passions and purpose in life. Healing for warriors and their caregivers comes from helping other Veterans and families.
ENTERTAINMENT AND POST-TRAUMATIC STRESS DISORDER (PTSD) CLASSES... inspire warriors and caregivers at SAS events. They can take knowledge, tools and resources back home to their communities to reach out to other warriors and caregivers. If more caregivers were educated about interventiona and recovery, more veterans will integrate back to their civilian world.
HELP STOP THE STIGMA... because our Veterans are highly skilled and prideful. Too many won't admit that they have PTSD issues and won't go for treatment. Eventually, Veterans lose hope and fall into patterns of addictions, crime, broken marriages and even suicide. You can help warriors with physical injuries, PTSD and traumatic brain injury (TBI) by supporting ONF's awareness campaigns and SAS events.
DONATE TODAY... ONF is a 501(c)3 non-profit and 100% volunteer organization with no paid administration or staff so donations go straight to the mission. A donation of your time, professional services, products or any money amount helps!
MORE ABOUT ONF... It started in 2004 when a gold star mother asked a graphic artist to help the public not forget her son. Since then, outdoor billboards, International Airport signs and mall displays have been posted nationwide for our deployed troops, wounded warriors and fallen heroes.
